Sanimax, a private family-run business, has been involved in rendering – one of the oldest recycling methods in the world – for three generations. The company makes daily advances in realizing its vision: to be recognized by its clients as the best provider of environmental solutions for the agri-food industry.

Every year, Sanimax reclaims almost 2.5 billion kilograms of agri-food by-products intended for landfill, diverting them to its 16 plants in three countries. While rendering is still one of the company’s core businesses more than a century after its inception, Sanimax has also adopted the underlying philosophy – reclaiming and renewing material, and putting it back on the market – and taken it a little further. The company currently offers a range of by-product collection services, as well as specialized maintenance for the restaurant industry. Sanimax, a key supplier of ingredients for agriculture and animal nutrition, enjoys a global reputation as a supplier of hides and skins.

During this visit, led by Yannick Cadotte and Éric Caputo, you will have access to various areas of the plant:

1- Water treatment

2- Biomass

3- Control room (operations)

4- Raw materials intake

Important: You should wear your safety shoes on this visit.

Société VIA is one of the largest MRF operators in Eastern North America. A pioneer in its field, the non-profit organization delivers a treatment of high quality  recyclables: paper, cardboard, glass, metal and plastic. Its expertise enables Société VIA to supply more than twenty Quebec companies with recyclables. The company serves more than 175 municipalities, including more than one million citizens. Its territory covers Quebec from Chibougamau to Natashquan on the North Shore, and from Lotbinière to Gaspésie on the South Shore. It also serves parts of New Brunswick and the French islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. The company operates 4 sorting centers: Quebec City, Lévis, Rivière-du-Loup and Dégelis. It employs more than 220 employees, most of whom are in socio-professional integration. Société VIA sorts more than 110,000 tons per year.

The Lévis’ MRF, which serves several municipalities on the south shore of Quebec City, in addition to more remote areas such as Charlevoix, Côte-Nord and Chibougamau, is one of the most modern in North America. During this visit, it will be possible to discover the specific features of this center, including an innovative system of optical sorting which allows a superior quality of fibers and containers. The various sorting sections and operations will be visited in sub-groups and accompanied by expert guides from the company. A short presentation of the Société VIA will also be offered at the beginning of the visit.
